71年前、雲ひとつない明るい朝、死が空から降ってきました。そして世界は変わりました。閃光と火柱が町を破壊し、人類が己自身を破壊するための手段をもっていることを、証明したのです。

We come to mourn the dead, including over 100,000 in Japanese men, women and children; thousands of Koreans; a dozen Americans held prisoner. Their souls speak to us. They ask us to look inward, to take stock of who we are and what we might become.
なぜ、我々はこの場所、広島に来るのでしょうか？それは、そう遠くない過去に解き放たれた恐ろしい力について、沈思するためです。10万人を超える日本人の男性、女性、そして子供、何千人もの朝鮮半島出身者、十数人の米国人捕虜を含む死者を追悼するためです。彼らの魂が、我々に語りかけます。彼らは我々に、内なる心に目を向けよと、そして今の我々の姿と将来なりうる我々の姿というものを、熟考せよと訴えます。・・・」
そしてオバマさんが広島を訪れた時のあのスピーチを思い出す

ずっと戦争を知らない自分でありたい
そう思うから、年に一度だけかも知れないけど戦争の愚かさを、悲惨さを知り、私なりに理解したこと身近かな人に伝えて行きたい
そう思う日にしたい
